The Victorian Bar Association recently released a report detailing findings from a survey of more than 850 barristers working in courts and tribunals across that state. Overall, the barristers surveyed reported that they enjoyed their work and were generally satisfied with their quality of life. On the other hand, the report identified issues relating to stress, discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment. This is consistent with findings reported or commented on elsewhere within the legal profession.

These issues are topical for the AAT because we are currently developing strategies for improving the way we support people experiencing stress at work. We also continuously review our processes to support members in the performance of their independent decision-making functions on behalf of the Tribunal.
